Golf Guide and Fees

Originally designed by Robert Muir Graves, the Moraga Country Club golf course winds its way through the beautiful hills, canyons and creeks of Moraga and Orinda. Nicely manicured fairways where no two holes are the same and smooth poa annua greens create an experience which members enjoy playing day after day.  At 6,150 yards par 71, our course doesn’t require great length off the tee rather it demands a keen mind, thoughtful strategy, and commitment for each shot.

Dedicated golf PGA Professionals work collaboratively with our Superintendent’s staff and volunteer committees to ensure our members enjoy every aspect of their golfing experience. Our club also offers practice facilities unique to most east bay clubs.
-- A full-sized Grass Driving Range with a practice Pitching area and a practice Sand Bunker.
-- An Artificial Turf teeing area; utilized when natural turf conditions or weather make hitting from grass unsuitable.
-- A large Putting Green with Chipping Area plus 2 smaller putting greens.

Our teaching professionals offer a variety of programs that enhance and promote the joy of golf.
-- Private Lessons for Adults and Children, incorporating filmed swing analysis.
-- Junior Golf Clinics for children 5 to 17 years of age.
-- A summer Golf League for Intermediate Juniors.

Club Membership also includes availablity to join four organized Golf Groups:
-- Moraga Women's Golf Association (MWGA) - Wednesday
     -- Moraga Women's 9-hole group (MCC Niners) - Tuesday

Handicap FAQ

To meet the requirement of the USGA Handicap System that each golf club utilizing the USGA Handicap System must appoint a Handicap Committee to ensure the integrity of each Handicap Index it issues.  This committee must make certain that the club members comply with the USGA Handicap System (See USGA Handicap System Manual, Section 8).  The Handicap Committee fulfills the function of the Golf Committee which mandates the implementation of the USGA Handicap System.

Committee Members:
Kevin O'Toole - Chair
Sharon Scott
Jan Iwata
Fran Gentry
Joe Roebuck
Sally McLaughlin
Lynn Isola
The members should be people that are especially knowledgeable about the USGA Handicap System and conversant with the USGA Handicap System Manual.  The Director of Golf is a member of the committee but may not be the chair.  Term of committee membership should be a minimum of two years but no more than four.
1.  Be responsible for all aspects of the USGA Handicap System.
2.  Verify that all acceptable scores are reported for handicap purposes, and that recorded scores are available for peer review.
3.  Ensure that Course Ratings and Slope Ratings from each set of tee markers are displayed.  Ensure that Course Handicap Conversion Tables are displayed.
4.  Should examine results of competitions and take appropriate action if net scores of any players appear exceptional.
5.  Work with other committees to confirm that the allocation of handicap-stroke holes are according to USGA guidelines; determine course set-up and par; determine if course conditions are so poor that score posting should be suspended; determine which scores are to be defined as "tournament" scores.
6.  Reduce or increase a Handicap Index of any player whose handicap does not reflect the player's potential ability.  Must give the player an opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding the porposed adjustment before the adjustment becomes effective.
7.  Have a representative from the golf club participate in a USGA Handicap Seminar, including passing a test exhibibiting knowlege about the Hanidcap System.
8.  Ensure that the golf club has a signed license agreement in place with a local authorized golf assocition of the USGA.
USGA requires each golf club to establish a Handicap Committee.  This Committee is responsible for ensuring compliance with the golf club's specified obligations and responsibilities under the "Rules of Handicapping".  The Committee is equipped with tools to intervene when the calculated Handicap Index is no longer reflective of the player's demonstrated ability.  The Committee can review the Handicap Index of a player to ensure the Index reflects his/her demonstrated ability.  These tools are designated to ensure that players are treated fairly and consistently.
1.  Act with integrity by following the "Rules of Handicapping" and to refrain from using or circumventing the "Rules of Handicapping" for the purpose of gaining an "unfair" advantage.
2.  Attempt to make the best score possible at each hole.  Casual golf and hitting multiple shots on a particular hole is not considered "best".
3.  Submit acceptable scores for Handicap purposes as soon as possible after the round is completed and before midnight local time.
4.  Submit acceptable scores to provide reasonable evidence of their demonstrated ability.
5.  Play by the "Rules of Golf".
6.  Certify the scores of fellow players.  Playing alone is a non-postable round.
1.  In an authorized format of play, which are Individual Stroke Play, Four-Ball Stroke Play, Individual Match Play, Four-Ball Match Play.
2.  In the company of at least one other person.
3.  By the "Rules of Golf".
4.  If a minimum of 10 holes are played for an 18-hole round.
5.  If a minimum of 9 holes are played for a 9-hole round.
6.  A 9-hole score which will be automatically combined with an expected Score Differential based on your Handicap index.  This will display as an 18-Hole score and be reflected the next day in your Handicap Index record.
1.  If course has been aerified or sanded. (per Director of Golf)
2.  If the round played is casual, i.e., playing two balls, not playing ball as it lies, etc.
3.  If format is a scramble or shamble format.
4.  While being coached on the course (professionally or hitting multiple shots).
5.  When using non-conforming equipment. (based on USGA guidlelines).
6.  When the number or type of clubs is restricted.
7.  Not playing the required number of holes i,e., 9 for 9, 10 for 18.
8.  When score cannot be verified by another person (playing alone).
9.  When not playing according to the "Rules of Golf".
10. Using a distance-measuring device that measures elevation changes (slopes).
1.  The maximum score to be posted for each hole is limited to net double bogey, i.e., Par + 2 strokes + any Handicap strokes on that hole.
2.  If a hole is not played, a 9-hole or 18-hole Score Differential will be created using their expected score for the hole or holes not played.  There must be a valid reson for not playing the hole: bad weather, darkness, injury, a hole out of play for construction purposes, for example.
3.  When a player starts a hole but does not hole out for a valid reason, the player must record their most likely score or net double bogey, whichever is lower, as appropriate for the situation and depending on the format of play.
